- Preparation to allow Europastry participation in flexibility markets.
- With its flexibility, Europastry could save between 50 y 120 k€/year aggregator.
Europastry is the leading company in the frozen bakery dough sector that has been operating for more than 30 years, offering its products in more than 80 countries through its 22 factories and 27 sales offices.
The electricity bill represents a big cost for this type of industry, and the increase in electricity prices creates new challenges for them. At the same time, volatility in electricity markets and regulatory changes allowing participation of consumers in flexibility markets creates new opportunities. However, Europastry does not know how to operate in electricity markets, and they do not know their flexibility potential.
Bamboo Energy connects the refrigerator of the Vallmoll facility plant to measure the consumption and collect critical information about the process, without the need to install new hardware.
Bamboo Energy validates the solution simulating the participation of the Europastry facility in flexibility markets. Results show that it could be possible to decrease up to 500 kW the electrical consumption during 2 hours without any impact on the process.
Bamboo Energy evaluates the potential business model for Europastry to participate in flexibility markets. The flexibility of Europastry’s Vallmoll plant could generate between 50 and 120 k€/year depending on the electricity prices’ trend. At the same time, its participation in flexibility markets would also imply a reduction of approximately 130 tons CO2/year and consequently improve Europastry’s environmental impact and corporate image of Europastry.
With this pilot, Europastry has built experience in implementing an innovative business model and are ready for larger scale deployments. At the same time, Bamboo Energy has gained experience in the logistic and refrigeration sector.
Europastry is willing to act as an independent aggregator in the future using the Bamboo Energy technology by taking advantage from the regulatory change in Spain to allow independent aggregators to participate in the market (from the end of 2022).
