We are back with the latest edition of FlexiNews, the space where we round up the main news from the energy sector and share the most relevant progress of our activity in Spain and Europe!
The European Commission has officially given the green light, under EU state aid rules, to the new electricity supply capacity mechanism in Spain. This aid measure has an estimated budget of €900 million per year over a ten-year period (totaling approximately €9 billion) and effectively kicks off this May 2026.
The major breakthrough for the energy transition and our ecosystem is that this mechanism will be completely open to demand response (flexibility) and energy storage (batteries), alongside clean generation. Beneficiaries will be selected through competitive, transparent, and non-discriminatory auctions, which will remunerate asset availability during periods of system scarcity.
Leading associations like AEPIBAL have already begun sharing detailed technical analyses and regulatory guidelines regarding this approval, marking a turning point for the deployment of large-scale storage and demand aggregation in Spain.

The harmonization of distributed flexibility across the EU-27 now has a launch date.
The key regulatory proposal coordinated by ACER, ENTSO-E, and the EU DSO Entity is completing its final institutional phases to become binding EU law, with full mandatory implementation across all Member States expected by 2027.
This new Network Code on Demand Response will eliminate the regulatory gaps that have historically held back flexibility across much of Central and Eastern Europe. Its primary goal is to level the playing field so that distributed assets—such as storage systems, electric vehicles, heat pumps, and industrial loads—can compete directly and in a standardized manner in wholesale and balancing markets through aggregation.
Why is this important? A benchmarking report by smartEn and LCP Delta highlights the massive current gap between advanced aggregation markets (such as France, Belgium, or Great Britain) and the rest of the continent. It is estimated that the full deployment of demand flexibility by 2030 would avoid the need to build 60 GW of peak generation capacity, saving up to €29 billion per year in grid investments and congestion-related extra costs in countries like Germany or the Netherlands.
The Flex touch: For VPP (Virtual Power Plant)-based optimization platforms, this unified regulatory framework represents the biggest highway for scalability of the decade. Shifting from 27 local «regulatory islands» to a single European standard will facilitate cross-border flexibility aggregation.

Running parallel to the big news from Brussels, Red Eléctrica (REE) has just published the results of the latest Active Demand Response Service (SRAD) auction. For the second half of 2026, the peninsular electricity system will count on 1,775 MW of manageable capacity, slightly up from the 1,725 MW in the first half of the year.
This volume represents 59% of the capacity initially requested by the system operator (2,999 MW). Thirty-six providers bid a total of 2,413 MW. The resulting marginal price was €42.62/MW for a total of 2,358 hours, which is equivalent to €200,996 per MW per year. As a new feature, the allocation algorithm has already incorporated recent modifications approved by the CNMC to optimize service efficiency.
We have great news to share! We have officially achieved certification from Huawei as an official partner to operate their utility-scale batteries. This achievement isn’t just a piece of paper; it reflects our growth, the maturity of our technology, and proves that we play by the standards of the biggest players.
This certification opens doors to key projects and consolidates our position in the sector by proving our ability to meet the most stringent requirements:
This is a massive technical milestone for our platform. You can find more about our collaboration here.
What a way to start the month! Forbes Spain magazine has officially included Bamboo Energy in its exclusive List of Spanish SMEs Changing the World in 2026. This tremendous recognition highlights the role of deeply innovative companies capable of successfully combining business growth with real positive impact against major global challenges.
In this edition, Forbes highlights companies developing highly scalable solutions with a strong technological component to solve structural market issues. In our case, the publication defines us as a consolidated benchmark in the energy transition field, applauding our commitment to Artificial Intelligence applied to electricity demand optimization and providing flexibility to the system, with a very specific focus on smart battery management.
Furthermore, the magazine underscores two key pillars of our current evolution:
To compile this rigorous list, Forbes Spain analyzes technology-based companies with cutting-edge innovation projects, proprietary patents, and intellectual property assets, cross-referencing data with excellence indicators such as the FT 1000 ranking, the Cepyme500 stamp, or the Innovative SME Seal from the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities (MCIU). An immense source of pride for the entire Bamboo team and fuel to keep revolutionizing the grid!
Bamboo Energy and EVOLUZ join forces! We have reached a strategic agreement to make it easier for more industrial companies to participate in flexibility and balancing services markets, turning their electricity consumption into a significant new source of value.
This collaboration perfectly combines Evoluz’s extensive experience in energy management and supply with our AI-based automation and optimization technology. Together, we will efficiently identify and activate flexible resources: demand response allows companies to punctually adapt part of their consumption without compromising operations, generating new revenue while contributing to a more stable and decarbonized power system. We keep building the future of energy: more digital, more flexible, and smarter! 💫 🎍

The largest European event in the energy sector is just around the corner! From June 22 to 25, the Bamboo Energy team will head to Munich to actively participate in The smarter E Europe.
It will be a very special event, as our CTO, Cristina Corchero, will deliver a keynote speech on the future of energy flexibility in Europe: «From Local Experiments to Lasting Markets: The Future of DSO Flexibility.» In her presentation on Tuesday, June 23 at 11:30 am (Hall ICM – Room 4), she will discuss—among other things—how smart demand management and advanced optimization and aggregation software for distributed batteries are transforming grid resilience and unlocking new monetization avenues.
If you are attending the event, don’t miss her presentation and come chat with us at Hall B5.409!
But before The Smarter E… Paris, here we come! This month’s European agenda is packed. In addition to our appointment in Munich, the Bamboo Energy team will be present at VivaTech Paris, the epicenter of Europe’s most disruptive technology and startups, from June 17 to 19.
In a showcase where Artificial Intelligence and the ecological transition lead the big debates, we are heading there to position our energy flexibility optimization software within the global deep-tech ecosystem, connect with international investors, and seal new strategic alliances. If you’re going to be in Paris soaking up the latest tech trends, drop us a line and let’s schedule a meeting!
Our international tour doesn’t stop! In line with our consolidation and growth in key regional markets, the Bamboo Energy team will kick off this month’s European tour at the prestigious Go Net Zero gathering in Romania on June 10 and 11. Our CEO, Manel Sanmartí, will pitch about Transforming distributed assets into utility-scale flexibility portfolios, make sure you don’t miss it!
This event is the perfect setting to discuss industrial decarbonization, sustainability, and the energy transition.
