Last week, our CTO and Co-Founder Cristina Corchero, PhD, took part in the 1st Edition of the Forum “Decarbonisation of Demand: The Role of Renewable Energy”, organised by El Periódico in Barcelona — a key event for discussing the present and future of the energy transition.
Cristina joined the expert panel on Renewable Electricity, moderated by Javier Alberto Muñoz González (APPA Renovables), alongside leading sector representatives Xavier Olivella (Quantica Renovables) and Belén López Flores (Nostrum Group).
During her intervention, Cristina highlighted the essential role of digitalisation in enabling effective electrical flexibility.
“Flexibility is not about consuming less — it’s about consuming better.”
She explained how intelligent storage management can increase performance by up to 35%, while also opening the door to new revenue streams through participation in adjustment markets — something already happening in countries like Portugal and France.
Cristina also stressed the need for “industrial education”, ensuring key sectors understand the benefits of electrifying and flexibilising their processes.
Across the discussion, one idea stood out:
If we truly want to electrify, we need flexibility — and the technology is already ready.
Flexibility is the tool that will allow us to build an electricity system that can support renewable integration, maintain competitiveness and enhance system resilience.
A special thank you to El Periódico for creating this space for thoughtful debate, and to all speakers for a session that reminded us why we do what we do.
