The energy transition in response to climate change and the challenges of our society must be an effective, efficient and just transition. The energy sector is evolving towards a decentralized, decarbonized, digitized and democratized model, where energy flexibility will be a key element in meeting the challenges of this transition. In this context, the role of demand aggregators is key to enabling and providing demand flexibility to the system.

Our reason being
We want to contribute in changing the current energy model towards a model in favor of people, society and the planet. Our purpose is to support the transition to cleaner energy sources by providing technological solutions (social-economic-environmental).
We developed an energy optimization technology platform for aggregation of demand flexibility to enable consumers to actively participate in the energy system and provide ways to monetize flexibility.
With our software platform we offer optimal flexibility management, from day-ahead trading to real-time flexibility operation.
A team of co-founders

10 years of experience in technological startups, energy field, and flexibility markets. A balanced team in business and technology skills with outstanding publications and projects. The team presents a great combination of business, research and development that will ensure that the company does not miss any opportunity in both fields to successfully apply as the best technological solution for flexibility monetization.

Manel Sanmartí
He brings experience in creation and management of energy and technological companies. He contributes with a high connection with the energy sector and fundraising, both at national and international level.
CTO
Cristina Corchero
She is a referent in the energy market sector and flexibility in Europe. Being the creator of our models and algorithms, she also has a wide experience and vision in developments of the science of data applied to energy systems.
Product Owner
Mattia Barbero
He has been, together with Cristina, the creator of the models and algorithms of Bamboo Energy within his doctoral thesis, thus guaranteeing the transfer of knowledge to Bamboo Energy.

2013-2020
Research2013-2020: Development of research and technological development activities within the framework of internal projects and competitive projects (IDE4L, SABINA, REFER, Growsmarter).
2013: IDE4L FP7 European project where we defined what is an aggregator and which needs will have its platform .
2015: SABINA H2020 European project where we develop and test our bidding and intraday modules.
2016: GrowSmarter H2020 European project where our machine learning algorithms are tested in real environment.
2017: In the RIS3CAT REFER project we test future Bamboo algorithms in a real environment. -
2018
Preferred Technology06/2018: Definition of our mission and vision. Our mission is to be the best-in-class platform of energy optimization for the aggregation of demand flexibility, generating positive impact for all our stakeholders. Our vision is to be a reference in technological energy solutions applied to the generation of impact (social-economic-environmental).
12/2018: Selection of CASE as the preferred technology for valorisation and commercialization within IREC’s internal technology enhancement program (“Lab-to-market” Innoenergy program). -
2019
Registration01/2019: Registration in the Barcelona Intellectual Property Registry of CASE technology (“Commercial Aggregation Software Environment (CASE)”), reference 02/2019/2226.
04/2019: The entrepreneurial team and IREC decide to prioritize the spin off option.
06/2019: Presentation and selection of CASE technology in the program The Collider of the Mobile World Capital. -
2020
Start Our Activity02/2020: Licensing agreement and technology transfer between IREC and the entrepreneurial team.
04/2020: CASE is selected as a finalist and the creation of the company with participation is proposed shareholder of Mobile World Capital. This option is discarded.
06/2020: Signing of the licensing agreement between IREC and the entrepreneurial team, foundation of the company Energueia SL.
08/2020: Bamboo Energy is accepted into Innoenergy’s Highway® (acceleration program).
10/2020: Innoenergy becomes a shareholder in Energueia.
11/2020: Bamboo Energy wins the regional NTT Data Challenge from Spain, and goes to the World Final in Tokyo in January 2021. Infraestructures.cat is the first client of Energuia.
12/2020: First formal board of directors meeting. -
2021
Fast Growth01/2021: Bamboo Energy website launch.
02/2021: Launch of ElectraFlex project with Electra Caldense and Energy Web.
02/2021: Integration into Coordinet project through the cascading funds program.
02/2021: Nexus joins Bamboo Energy as a client. Nexus is Spain's main energy retailer.
03/2021: Damien Tavan joins us as Head of Product Engineering.
03/2021: Adherence to SmartEn; the European business association for digital and decentralised energy solutions.
04/2021: Bamboo receives a direct aid of €75,000 from the Start-up Capital line of ACCIÓ.
04/2021: 5 FTE Team.
05/2021: Creation of our product team.
06/2021: 375K€ Pre-SEED Round; IDAE and Innoenergy become a shareholder in Bamboo.
06/2021: Flexumers asset onboarding API implementation.
06/2021: First summer team buiding.
07/2021: Bamboo organizes the first webinar about flexibility.
07/2021: Bamboo is selected for the ENISA 158K€ equity loan. -
2022

02/2022: Enhol and Bamboo start a strategic partnership to make Enhol's client portfolio more flexible.
03/2022: Cristian López joins Bamboo as head of Business development.
03/2022: 10 FTE team.
03/2022: Cuerva and Bamboo start a strategic partnership to make Cuerva's client portfolio more flexible.
04/2022: The European project H2020 Coordinet where Bamboo acts as a demand aggregator is successfully concluded.
04/2022: Bamboo renews the management and governance team. Manel Sanmartí is the new CEO and Cristina Corchero becomes President of the Board.
